Trump in 'cognitive decline' as he calls himself 'war hero' and butchers two country names

 Familiar demands surfaced on social media Wednesday for the 79 year old president to undergo a cognitive assessment, following his mix-up of Armenia with another nation and his mispronunciation of Azerbaijan whilst boasting about his dealmaking skills in halting the countries' decades-long conflict earlier this month.

Donald Trump incorrectly told Fox News pundit Mark Levin: "It's, you know, a lot of amazing, amazing things. You saw the 'Aberbaijan. That was a big one going on for 34, 35 years with, uh, Albania. Think of that, I mean, going on for years."

Although Trump, who just days ago was caught on a hot mic making a shocking revelation about his true feelings about Putin, orchestrated the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace accord at the White House, which steered the nations towards reconciliation, it failed to completely resolve their 37-year-long dispute.

Trump praised himself during the radio programme, reiterating a misleading assertion that he has concluded six wars since his re-election. He informed presenter Levin that during their 7 August meeting, the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders "didn't feel good," but by the conclusion were "hugging each other and congratulating each other.

He bragged: "I got that one settled. And that was one that people said 'you couldn't settle it'. It was beautiful to watch, actually."

During the radio interview, Trump made the audacious claim of being a "war hero" due to his June order to bomb Iran's nuclear enrichment sites, a decision that drew criticism from several members of his coalition, reports the Irish Star.

Trump famously avoided the Vietnam draft citing "bone spurs," a claim that his former lawyer Michael Cohen alleged was fabricated during a 2019 testimony before the House Oversight Committee. Trump also received four other draft deferments for "educational purposes".

"You think I'm stupid, I wasn't going to Vietnam," Cohen quoted Trump as saying in the lead-up to his 2016 election campaign.

Social media users were swift to criticise the president's memory lapse.

Mocking how low the bar is, one user on X wrote: "He almost nailed 'Aberbaijan'. That for him is a good day."

"Is it cognitive test time?" another queried.

Earlier this month, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with Trump at the White House to sign a joint declaration committing to a peace deal.

The agreement established a transportation corridor between the two countries, christened the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP). As per the agreement, the U.S. was granted development rights for the corridor, which would link Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan region bordering Iran and Turkey.

The almost four decades of conflict were primarily centred around the contested Nagorno-Karabakh territory, a region within Azerbaijan's borders previously inhabited by ethnic Armenians.
