Minister urges prioritizing disaster mitigation for Eid homecoming

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi urged all stakeholders at the central and regional levels to prioritize disaster mitigation efforts for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming travel period.

This step is deemed essential as an anticipatory measure against adverse weather conditions in several regions.

"We have prepared all the transportation modes for the 2026 Eid travel, but we demand special attention to weather conditions," he said in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Saturday.

Minister Purwagandhi, accompanied by NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, has held a coordination meeting with the provincial government, district and city authorities, and other stakeholders in NTB to prepare for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation season.

The minister emphasized that taking mitigation measures early is crucial to ensuring smooth travel and preventing disruptions during this year's homecoming season.

"We are maintaining continuous coordination with the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency) and keeping a close watch on the situation. Since rainy weather is expected to persist in several regions across Indonesia until April, we must stay ahead of it," he stated.

He asserted that while this year's homecoming faces weather-related challenges, preparations for land, sea, and air transportation are already in place.

"I see that everything is ready. The NTB Provincial Government has prepared well to ensure a sense of security and safety for travelers," the minister added.

Meanwhile, Governor Iqbal affirmed his commitment to supporting this year’s Eid transportation smoothness, stating that air, sea, and land transport in the region are fully prepared.

Earlier, Minister Purwagandhi announced that 143.9 million people are projected to travel during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr travel season, based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation.

To serve the massive movement of people, the ministry has readied a fleet of 31,345 buses, 2,683 trains, 829 ships, 392 aircraft, and 255 ferries.

The ministry has also prepared other initiatives, such as ticket discounts, free homecoming trip programs, and a joint ministerial decree regarding freight vehicle restrictions.
