Lionel Messi Risks Getting Suspended For MLS Cup Final After Ugly Clash vs New York City FC
Inter Miami CF defeated New York City FC and was crowned champion of the MLS Eastern Conference, but it risks losing Lionel Messi for the MLS Cup.
Messi, 38, was involved in an altercation with several NYCFC players. The Argentine was seen as very upset, specifically with Maxi Moralez, captain of the rival squad.
During the best-of-three series against Nashville SC, in game two, Luis Suarez was involved in an altercation with Andy Najar. At the time, the referee did not call anything, not even a card. But subsequently, a one-game suspension and a fine were issued, which prevented the Uruguayan from playing the decisive game of that series.
Something similar could happen to Messi, in case the MLS Disciplinary Committee interprets that the Argentine's actions warrant a suspension and/or a fine.
Tadeo Allende Leads Inter Miami To MLS History By Beating New York City FC
Inter Miami decisively defeated NYCFC 5-1. Tadeo Allende opened the scoring in the 14th minute and would appear again in the 23rd minute, assisted by Alba. New York reacted in the 37th minute with a goal from Justin Haak, assisted by Moralez.
The joy would not last long for the away side, as in the 67th minute, Mateo Silvetti extended the lead with a goal assisted by Messi. In the 83rd minute, Telasco Segovia sealed the rout with another great assist from Alba, but things did not end there.
Just before the final whistle, in the 89th minute, Allende completed his hat trick. A crushing victory for the Herons to crown themselves Conference champions.
