Luis Diaz shows true colours after Florian Wirtz to Liverpool transfer completed

Liverpool stars past and present reacted as the Premier League champions officially announced the record-breaking signing of Florian Wirtz.

The German star has made the switch from Bayer Leverkusen, penning a five-year contract in a deal that could escalate to £116 million. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is considered one of the best young players in the world and had a hugely impressive run last season in the Bundesliga, netting 10 goals and providing 13 assists.

Given the excitement surrounding the transfer, Liverpool's official social media channels were abuzz when the news broke. Current members of the Liverpool squad also chimed in with their reactions to the exciting news, including one talent who may not be around next season to play with the German international.

Among those who 'liked' the social media posts about the signing was Luis Diaz, reports the Liverpool Echo. The winger has been rumoured to be on his way out of Anfield this summer, with Barcelona reportedly keen, plus interest from wealthy sides in the Saudi Pro League.

Earlier this month, the Echo reported that Liverpool had turned down an official bid from Barcelona for the Colombian international. However, Liverpool insist they have no intention of letting the 28-year-old go this summer, as he is contracted until 2027.

Alisson, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister also showed their support by 'liking' posts about the signing. Former Red Georginio Wijnaldum also gave his approval.

In the comments section, Aston Villa's Leon Bailey responded with applause and praise emojis. The two wingers were team-mates at Bayer Leverkusen before Bailey's move to Villa in 2021.

The German club dished out a top-notch message in the comments of the signing announcement, penning: "Take care of this great lad!"

They followed up with another heart-warming comment on a subsequent post, stating: "Look after him."

Wirtz is set to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool at Anfield, facing off against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15.

But he'll get a shot to shine even earlier with warm-up matches against AC Milan, Yokohama FM and Athletic Club, not to mention the Community Shield clash with FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.
