Lionel Messi's Inter Miami targeting former Man United star
Inter Miami have been linked with several names ahead of the upcoming Major League Soccer's secondary transfer window.
Lionel Messi's side are set to face Egyptian side Al Ahly in their first match of the Club World Cup on June 14 at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida. Ahead of the competition, multiple reports have revealed that the Herons are reinforcements to strengthen their defense line.
And now, according to TNT Sports Argentina, Inter Miami are keen on signing former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo this summer.
Following his seven-year stint at Old Trafford, Rojo joined Boca Juniors in 2021, with his current contract there set to expire at the end of this year.
As it turns out, this is not the first time, Inter Miami have taken an interest in signing Rojo, who has earlier revealed receiving a call from Messi about the potential transfer.
What did Marcos Rojo say about potentially joining Leo Messi-led Inter Miami?
Inter Miami reportedly attempted to acquire Rojo's signature around this time last year. While speaking to Argentine news outlet Radio La Red, the 35-year-old mentioned that despite receiving a call from Messi over a possible move to the MLS, he was not 'convinced' to part ways with the Argentine club.
"Leo called me, it's not like it was just anyone or an intermediary, no-one. I spoke with Leo Messi, who told me about the possibility of going to Inter. Imagine what that means for any footballer. The truth is I was not convinced to leave Boca, I had recently renewed. I was 100 per cent convinced to continue in Boca and I want to continue doing it," said Rojo.
It remains to be seen if the second time's the charm for Rojo and Inter Miami and if the defender is reunited with his former Argentine teammates including Messi, at the Herons this summer.
